1956

The first CWAJ Print Show (PS) was held at International House in Tokyo. The show included 91 woodblock prints by 39 artists including Onchi Koshiro, Munakata Shiko and Kawakami Sumio. The inspiration was the publication of Oliver Statlers Modern Japanese Prints: An Art Reborn. Support was provided by publisher Charles Tuttle and Yōseido Gallerys Abe Yūji. Proceeds helped to pay travel expenses for Japanese students to study in the United States, and PS became the main fundraiser for future CWAJ grants and scholarships.
